Job Description

As an assistant manager/butcher, your duties and responsibilities are to oversee the butcher or deli section of our butcher shop. You help schedule shifts and hire and train new employees on how to maintain product quality, operate specialized butcher’s machinery used for cutting meat, and weigh products. You also teach them proper packaging techniques. As the meat department manager, you are responsible for keeping your department sanitary and efficient and addressing concerns from customers. You also consult with sales managers and others to assess goals and strategies to increase sales.
Summary of essential job functions.
Essential Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Responsibility

  • Track sales report and order products to meet customer requirements and increase profits.
  • Minimize out-of-stock and overstock to ensure fresh merchandise.
  • Schedule meat associates, engage in specialized skills training, and delegate work to use talents and abilities to increase profits.
  • Execute localized merchandising plans and follow company plans to ensure meat department achieves profits.
  • Manage and track inventory records to estimate gross monthly profits as per company guidelines.
  • Receive and unload incoming shipments and price product to ensure product quality, protection and rotation in cases and cooler.
  • Control store expenses by enhancing operations, meet budgeted goals and control shrinkage and pilferage.
  • Ensure compliance with safety and sanitation standards mandated by state, federal and OSHA regulations.
  • Ensure associates run equipment safely.
  • Comply with state, local and government weight, measures and labeling.
  • Communicate with owners and sales associates to design marketing plans to meet meat store’s profits.
  • Welcome and receive orders from customers.
  • Determine Store areas for improvement and institute changes to address concerns.
  • Manage store records on associate performance, discipline and sales plans.
  • Handle staff duty like trimming and cutting.

Minimum Requirements

Our ideal candidate will think out of the box, be proactive and take the initiative, have the ability to make quick decisions and work independently, and enjoy a challenge!

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. Equivalent
  • Education or food preparation or meat cutting experience.
  • Ability to use hand tools, stand or walk for extending periods, lift heavy items, and work in cold environments.
  • Additional training is often required.
  • Knowledge of meat preparation techniques and cuts.
  • Strong communication, task management, and customer service skills.
