Job description
Under limited supervision, the Senior Network Engineer is responsible for complex engineering and/or analytical tasks and activities associated with one or more technical areas within the Network function, such as, but not limited to, network design, engineering, implementation, or operations/user support. Work on problems of diverse scope where analysis of situation requires evaluation and judgment. Assist in the planning of large-scale systems projects through vendor comparison and cost studies. Provide work leadership and training to other Network Engineers. Requires thorough knowledge of LAN/WAN systems, networks and applications.
Summary of essential job functions.
Essential Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Understand the information security implications of technology solutions and ensure they comply with the Information Security policies and processes.
- Undertake proactive measures to ensure compliance with the Information Security policies and processes.
- Provide Level III support on telecommunications-related issues.
- Design, plan for, implement and maintain network data communications systems.
- Interact with third-party software suppliers to perform problem resolution and enhancement.
- Business Recovery: Develop and maintain processes to support business continuity in the event of a disaster situation.
- Actively support LAN/WAN standards as well as interfaces to applications, from workstations, and among diverse systems.
- Maintain technical expertise through on-going personal study and training.
- Maintain and support network management platforms.
- Provide guidance, documentation, and appropriate training to ICT technical and operations on support of implemented WAN technologies.
Functional Processes
- Provide guidance and counsel to functional organizations and their managers with the formulation and deployment of processes and appropriate application of technology to support the overall company objectives.
- Coordinate, facilitate and communicate the development of "Best Practices" associated with information technology solutions.
Project Management
- Understand the LLC Project Framework including Project Management policies, practices and procedures.
- Manage projects of any size using the LLC Project Framework or industry best practice in lieu thereof; areas of expertise should include:
- Human Resources
- Communications and Change Management
- Risk Management
- Procurement management
Technology Support
- Provide LLC technology users with fantastic levels of support.
Communications
- Assist with the development and compliance of ICT policies and processes.
- Contribute actively to department- and company-level communication forums.
- Provide documentation to support the appropriate use of LLC solutions.
- Provide feedback within the ICT group regarding the implementation, support and on-going efforts of technology solutions.
- Provide documentation to support the operational aspects of our tools and products.
Vendor Relationships
- Establish and maintain positive working relationships between LLC business units and our technology partners.
- Work as the primary liaison between our company and our technology vendors.
- Work with our technology vendors to continually improve the tools available to us.
- Ensure a complete understanding of our contractual relationships (software licensing agreements and software maintenance agreements).
- Maintain appropriate maintenance agreements for our technology solutions.
- Ensure the appropriate costing for software and maintenance to LLC business units.
- Interact with third-party software suppliers to perform problem resolution and enhancement.
Minimum Requirements

- 4-year degree in Engineering, MIS, Telecommunications, Computer Science, Mathematics, Information Technology or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of technology-related work experience.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Visio.
- Ability to interface with a variety of technical and business personnel with courtesy, tact and diplomacy.
- Solid communication skills (both oral and written) to direct, organize and communicate with others.
- 5+ years overall experience in telecommunications and networking. Must have solid and progressive experience working in technology infrastructure and networking in various environments.
- 5+ years’ experience with Cisco routers/switches, frame relay, VPN, MPLS and structured cabling systems. Must have working knowledge of various WAN technologies; experience with Frame relay, VPN & MPLS in a multi-site network preferred. Able to configure and implement moderately complex WAN schemes. Experience with WAN management packages preferred. Working knowledge of router access lists desired.
- Minimum Cisco CCNA certification required. Other certifications (CCIE, MCSE, Citrix, CCSE) may be helpful. Must have demonstrated on-going growth through continuing education, network/telecom courses, and/or technical seminars.
- 5+ years’ experience with and knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, and addressing/subnetting. Working knowledge of OSPF, EIGRP, and BGP routing protocols.
- . General knowledge of LAN Operating Systems (Win2000/2003/AD), hubs, switches. Working knowledge of QOS and layer 3 routing concepts.
- 3+ years Project Management experience.
